ABSTRACT

Objective:To compare the clinical effects of gargle fluid containing scutellaria baicalensis with chlorhexidine in the treatment of chronic gingivitis and to observe TNF-α expression in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) before and after treatment.Methods:90 cases of chronic gingivitis were divided into 3 groups (n =10) based on random number table and treated by scaling and mouth wash with normal saline(group A),chlorhexidine(group B) and scutellaria baicalensis(group C) respectively.PI and GI were measured,TNF-α level in GCF was examined after initial therapy,1 week,2 week and 1 month after treatment. Results:Comprehensive analysis of the whole treatment process showed that there was difference of PI among 3 groups(F =3.506,P =0.034).PI in group B was lower than that in group A and C (P < 0.05;A vs C,P > 0.05);there was difference of GI among the 3 groups (F =6.359,P =0.003).GI in group A was higher than that in group B and C(P <0.05;B vs C,P >0.05),there was difference of TNF-α concentration in GCF among the 3 groups(F =3.780,P =0.027);TNF-α in group A was higher than that in group B and C(P <0.05,B vs C,P >0.05).Conclusion:Radix scutellariae and chlorhexidine gargle fluid are equally effective in the treatment of chronic gigivitis.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the expression of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway related proteins Wnt1 and β-catenin protein in gingival tissues of the patients with drug-induced gingival overgrowth(DGO) caused by nifedipine.Methods:Wnt1 and β-catenin expression were tested with Western Blot and RT-PCR in gingival tissues of 10 cases of DGO induced by nifedipine,10 cases of high blood pressure with gingival hyperplasia(without use of any medicine) and 10 cases of healthy control. Results:In the gingival tissues of DGO group the levels of Wnt1 and β-catenin protein and mRNA were significantly higher than those of the healthy control group(P < 0.05) and the high blood pressure group (P < 0.05).Conclusion:The levels of Wnt1 and β-catenin are increased in nifedipine induced gingival hyperplasia. The gingival hyperplasia may be caused by the promotion of gingival fibroblast proliferation through Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the association of serum leptin(LEP)level in patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus and periodontitis with clinical periodontal indexes.Methods:30 healthy subjects(group A),30 chronic periodontitis patients(group B)and 30 type 2 diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis(DMCP)(group C)were included.Probing depth(PD),attachment loss(AL),plaque index (PLI)and bleeding on probe(BOP)were examined.High performance liquid chromatography detection was used to determine the ex-pression of the fasting plasma glucose (FPG),glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c)in plasma samples.Serum level of LEP was measured by ELISA.Results:Levels of serum HbA1c,FPG and LEP in group C were significantly higher than those in group B and A(P 0.05);The r values of plasma LEP level to PD,AL,PLI and BOP were 0.506,0.551, 0.519 and 0.582 respectively(P <0.05).Conclusion:The LEP level is elevated in patients with DMCP.Circulating LEP level is positively related to PD,AL,PLI and BOP.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the expression of Wnt5a in gingival tissues of the patients with chronic periodontitis.Methods:Wnt5a expression was tested with RT-PCR and Western-Blot in gingival tissues in 20 cases of chronic periodontitis and 20 correspond-ing normal tissues. Results:In the gingival tissues of chronic periodontitis cases Wnt5a overexpression was found comparing with nor-mal tissues(P <0.05).The higher clinical attachment loss was correlated with the higher expression of Wnt5a.Conclusion:Wnt5a may affect the course of the inflammatory process and alveolar bone destruction in patients with chronic periodontitis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the expression of Wnt3a in chronic periodontitis patients and its clinical significance. Methods Wnt3a expression was examined by RT-PCR and Western-Blot in 15 cases of chronic periodontitis gingival tis?sues and 15 normal tissues. Probe depth and attachment loss were also compared between these two groups. Correlation be?tween Wnt3a expression and attachment lose were also analyzed. Results Probe depth was deeper in chronic periodonititis groups than that in control group(mm:7.93±1.56 vs 1.83±0.37). Attachment loss was(7.76±1.34)mm in chronic periodonti?tis group while it was not seen in control gorup. Wnt3a was lower both in transcription level(0.49±0.03 vs 0.36±0.04)and expression level(0.57±0.14 vs 0.43±0.17, P<0.05) in chronic periodonitis tissue compared with that in normal tissues. The higher clinical attachment loss was negatively correlated with expression of Wnt3a (r=-0.564,P=0.028). Conclusion Wnt3a is expressed less in chronic periodontitis than that in control group. Wnt3a plays an important role in attachment loss and bone absorption.
